Hannah Montana Contest Winner a Fake

Hannah MontanaA 6-year-old girl won four tickets to a Hannah Montana concert in New York with an essay that claimed her "daddy died this year in Iraq." Heartbreaking? Yes. True? No.

Priscilla Ceballos, the mother of the young girl, had told the company sponsoring the contest that the girl's father died April 17 in a roadside bombing in Iraq. When the spokesman asked the girl's mom if the story was true, the mother said no. God bless America.

"We never said this was a true story," Ceballos told FOX 4 in Dallas. "We do essays all the time. My daughter does essays at school all the time. It never did say it had to be true, but [the contest organizer] said, 'That's what we expected.'" Duh!

Club Libby Lu, the company behind the contest, has not yet made a decision as to whether the girl will get to keep the tickets.

UPDATE: Club Libby Lu has released the following statement on their website: "Club Libby Lu has been evaluating the situation surrounding our Hannah Montana Rock Your Holidays Essay Contest and is extremely sensitive to the fact we're dealing with a 6-year-old little girl. We wanted to take ample time to gather all the necessary facts in order to make an appropriate decision regarding whether or not we would award the Hannah Montana concert tickets and other prizes to the Ceballos family.

After awarding the grand prize, we unfortunately learned that the statements made in the essay were untrue. Club Libby Lu greatly values honesty and integrity. In order to uphold these values, we have decided to withdraw the award initially given to the Ceballos family.

Consequently, we will award the prize to another winner already identified. With this decision, we hope to revive the intended spirit of the contest, which was designed to make a little girl's holidays extra special. In order to protect the family's privacy, we have decided to not disclose the name of the new winner."

106. Has anyone check their legal status?
I think this mom and daughter should have to hand deliver the tickets to a child that really did loose a father in Iraq on April 17th. I don'tt hink trash like this would be touched but at least it is worth a shot.
I hope ICE is gearing up their deportation papers on this family.
I taught 1st grade for 10 years and never had students that wrote essays like this and especially not in cursive. Not only does mom lie but cheats and steals.
After living all my life in Texas this is what is happening to the popu;ation when they let illegals in. This is all they know and how they raise their kids..GET THEM OUT!!!!

108. I'm not sure I really agree with punishing the CHILD by taking away the tickets because this was clearly the MOTHER's fault. The mother knew perfectly well what her daughter was writing, she allowed her to send it in, and in all likelihood, it was probably all HER idea in the first place. Then she tries to use a technicality to excuse their behavior, saying, "Nobody ever said it had to be true!" Now, if that isn't a line from a scam artist, nothing is!

On the other hand, however, losing the tickets might be a good opportunity for this little girl to learn some valuable life lessons (ones that her mother is obviously never going to teach her)--such as the fact that you don't get what you want in life by LYING and making people feel sorry for you. Scams like this do tend to backfire and perhaps the tickets SHOULD be taken away and given to someone else after all. It might do the little girl more harm than good if they're not because getting to keep the tickets can only reinforce this behavior.

109. Absolutely disgusting. Give the tickets to the runner-up, that decision should be a no-brainer.

110. This is disgusting. I can not believe that a mother would help her write a essay about something so horrible. My husband is serving in Iraq and I am just so taken back by this that I am not sure what to say. I really think the company needs to revoke her prize and give the tickets to the runner up. Death is not something a six year old should make up with the help of a parent, specially when it involves our soldiers and Iraq. The mother should be very ashamed of herself.

111. This is awful. My husband is serving his 2nd tour in Iraq. Roadside bombings are not something that should be lied about to get concert tickets. This is horrible. The mom needs a reality check. What kind of parent teaches their child to blantantly lie at such a young age? I don't think this girl should get the tickets, give them to someone who really has lost a parent in the war. Absolutely disgusting.

112. The problem is not so much that they lied as it is what exactly they lied ABOUT. The war in Iraq is a VERY sensitive issue that's bound to pull at the heart strings and the mother knew that. She used it to her advantage so she can't complain now that she's getting the backlash she deserves. She didn't care about anyone else's feelings or anyone's REAL loss (of loved ones who HAVE been killed) just as long as her undoubtedly-spoiled little girl got what she wanted. This wouldn't have been anywhere near as big of a deal had the little girl written a story about riding a unicorn or some other fictional nonsense like that. You can write fictional stories, but you have to draw a line when this fictional story is a little too real and is hurting thousands of other people. Like I said, stick to mythical creatures (like the little girl obviously WOULD have had she actually written this "essay" herself)!

113. You people are nutz. The contest judges should know what a six year old is capable of writing. They should also have specified whether the essay was to be fiction or non-fiction. All the people whining about having relatives in Iraq need to take it elsewhere and stop picking on a little kid. It's the government's fault your relatives are in Iraq so take it up with them.

114. Today was a good day on two fronts. First, the story has hit the news world wide. Anytime anyone googles the name Patricia Ceballos in the future, this will come up. Second, the prize was rescinded. As someone that has been to numerous OIF/OEF funerals, this one really irked me.

117. it makes no sense to me why a mother would write such an essay. a six year old only knows but so much about the war in Iraq, for the mother to even entertain the thought of composing such filth tells me that she has no respect for the men and women serving overseas. Those tickets have already been yanked out of the kid's hands. The runner-up already has them in their possession. I hope the true winner enjoys the concert. the mother should be educated about Iraq, the men and women overseas, and their families that are worried sick about them or those that have lost their loved ones, so she will get a better understanding about what she made fun of. In addition, she ought to make a public apology for writing such a letter. As for the girl, considering her mother orchestrated the whole thing, she should also learn about Iraq and what happens over there. At least this way, she'll understand what happens, and she won't be tempted to tell a lie like this in the future.

118. Maybe the mother is preparing the kid for a career in politics; or, perhaps a career as an actress. Hmm. But she is a bad example; esp. if a kid sees how she won, and think she can do it as well.

The mother probably excels at lying, because she's gotten what she wanted by doing so. And she sees how liars are rewarded.

119. 1. Notwithstanding that a 25 year old LIAR is competing with pre-teens for tickets to a Hannah Montana Show ....

2. Another example of how those people lie and cheat is that Los Angeles City Attorney, Rocky Delgadillo, lied and cheated to a plum city position while lying that he played football for the Hamilton, Ontario, Canada "Tiger Cats" and touting his education as a Harvard student. Earlier this year when he fell under the spotlight for sending Paris Hilton back to jail after she was released the first time - Los Angeles tax-payers and the media became aware that Michelle Delgadillo (the wife) had an outstanding arrest warrent and was not licensed to drive motor vehicles. The City Attorney did not even have proof of insurance for their vehicle. Furthermore, the Los Angeles City Attorney and his wife were using city employees to do personal errands and babysit their kids. Michelle Delgadillo was running her business without the appropriate business permits. Rather than being knocked off the pedestal for their devious misconduct - they were given the opportunity to quietly pay up the fee arrears and their misconduct was neatly concealed from public scrutiny. People like that are role models for other sneaky people in their community.

3. The common factor in #1 and #2, is that they are clueless that what they have done is fraudulent. They actually believe that they are the victims. In the matter of a 6 year old writing an essay - that is so ridiculous because children at that age print and do not yet have the capacity to write such an essay. Rescinding the concert tickets is the appropriate action in this matter because the mother of that 6-year old is a nasty role model for other devious people in this country.

120. If she keeps the tickets she proves that lying is what it takes to get anywhere. Do you want her as you doctor, lawyer or friend?
NOT!
